What to expect

How a dentures
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Planning

We discuss what you want, full or partial, acrylic or chrome, the look you're aiming for. We share photos of similar cases so you can see what's possible.

  2. Impressions & try-in

We take impressions, then bite registration. Before the final dentures are made, we do a wax try-in so you can see the shape and shade, and adjust before committing to the final.

  3. Fitting

We fit the final dentures, check pressure points, and let you wear them home. Some adjustment is normal in the first few days.

  4. Settle-in & review

Most patients have 2 to 3 quick adjustment visits in the first month while sore spots get smoothed out. After that, an annual review keeps everything comfortable.

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

Will they look obvious?

Modern dentures look very natural, far better than dentures from 30 years ago. We pay attention to tooth shape, shade and gum tone. Most people you meet won't be able to tell.

How long until I get used to them?

First 2 to 4 weeks is the adjustment period, speech, eating, the physical feel. After that, most patients forget they're in. Reading aloud at home helps with speech in the first week.

Can I eat normally?

You'll start with soft foods and small bites, gradually working up to more challenging textures over a few weeks. Some foods stay tricky, thick steaks, very crunchy raw vegetables. Implant-retained dentures handle these much better.

What's a partial denture?

A partial replaces some teeth but clips around the remaining natural teeth. Less coverage, more comfortable for many patients, and better for keeping the natural teeth healthy long-term.

Should I take them out at night?

Yes, gives your gums a rest, lets you clean both the dentures and your mouth properly, and reduces the risk of fungal infection. Soak in water or a denture-cleaning solution overnight.

Could I have implants instead?

Sometimes, depending on bone, health, budget and goals. Implant-supported dentures (where the denture clips onto 2 to 4 implants) is also a popular middle option that combines comfort with the simplicity of a denture. Worth a consult to talk through.
